Professor Norbert M. Seel studied Education, Psychology, Philosophy and History and earned his doctorate at Saarland University in Germany. From 1998 he was distinguished professor of education with the focus on research on learning and instruction at Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany.

He has taught a large range of subjects in the field of social sciences. His research interests include model-based learning and thinking, inductive reasoning and complex problem solving, the investigation of exploratory learning within technology-enhanced environments, creativity and processes of decision making in instructional settings. Professor Seel has published more than 20 books, among them the textbooks "Psychology of Learning" (2nd ed.) and “Educational Science” as well as more than 200 refereed journal articles and book chapters in the area of cognitive psychology, learning research and instruction.
