a, b Effect of temperature on ALR and ALRA131K activities. ALR (a) and ALRA131K (b) activities were assayed for 5 min at the indicated temperatures and pH 7.0 (MES buffer) using 20 mM l-alanine as the substrate with and without 1 mM acetate. For ALR, the maximum rates with and without acetate were 317 ± 5.72 and 178 ± 2.04 μmol/min mg, respectively (n = 3). For ALRA131K, the maximum rates with and without acetate were 711 ± 16.0 and 745 ± 23.4 μmol/min mg, respectively (n = 3). Open circles, without acetate; filled circles, with 1 mM acetate
